Having carved a formidable name as producers and remixers, Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier have created their first DJ mix album for !K7. It’s trailered by two exclusive tracks but it’s the Club Mix of ‘Numbers [DJ-Kicks]’ which I’ve leapt to and am holding responsible for its inclusion in the techno section, becoming a lustrous homage to the classic Detroit techno sound as the synths and unstoppable built into a glorious wall. The original is a different beast, riding a low-key chug topped by their first excursion into vocals as the warm, uplifting atmosphere is bolstered by strings and pianos to create a lovely vibe. Meanwhile, ‘Estoril’ is a deep, subterranean techno instrumental which shimmers along its own intoxicating route. Looks like a treat’s in store with the album.
