The Flies have an impressive pedigree – singer and guitarist Sean Cook has
done time as part of Spiritualized and Lupine Howl, while accomplices Bob
Locke and Tim Norfolk were previously known as The Insects, and looked after
studio duties with Goldfrapp and Massive Attack. The influence of all those
named bands makes itself known but not in an overbearing way – the results
rather closer to mid-90s Aloof and even, in the case of ‘One Of Them’, Pink
Floyd. Throughout the unhurried beat styles and carefully crafted tracks
make a strong impression, with Cook’s vocals the dark icing on the cake. An
excellent come-down album.
