Kirk Degiorgio
I Do Not Exist
B12

In the early 90s, Mike Golding and Steve Rutter’s B12 Records were up there with the Black Dog, GPR and Infonet when it came to showing that the UK could make startling, groundbreaking electronic dance music. B12 twelves managed to combine dancefloor shockwaves with cerebral space symphonies, none more so than Kirk Degiorgio, who would see his As One and Future Past aliases embraced by the Motor City heavyweights as he went on to unfurl a stream of electronic milestones. So it’s cause for celebration in the techno taverns as Kirk appears on a relaunched B12 with an absolute stonker. ‘I Do Not Exist’ is a bass-propelled epic which manages to mix mutated traditional elements like soaring strings and melodies over a scrubbed up loop which adds to the organic, emotional feel swelling throughout like a rhino’s boner. Hectic but subtle, it’s another Degiorgio classic. The B12 remix is brilliantly-constructed, oozing atmosphere and toughened with some 303 pebbledashing. Acidic bonus ‘Accretion’ is deep and glistening with a two minute intro and orchestral sweep. Although pointed firmly at the future, this release evokes nostalgia for shops like Fat Cat bulging with steaming vinyl and excited DJs. It’s sad that some will never know that particular buzz but this top set gives a hint.
