Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi Volume 4: Funk D’Void
Soma

Soma’s Sci-Fi-Hi-Fi series has been a belter, every won a winner so far with superlative selections from Ewan Pearson, Luciano and Alex Smoke. Now it’s the turn of label stalwart Lars Sandberg who weaves together 17 deep, sparkling house and techno gems which rise from a whisper to a scream and back again. He sets out his stall in stunning fashion by intricately mixing together Itamar Sagi’s ‘Black Gold’ and his mix of Beroshima’s ‘Horizon. >From here on it’s a magic carpet ride through names including Joel Mull, Vector Lovers, H-Foundation, Dirt Crew, Quince and a riotous funk-techno workout from Two Armadilloes. My personal highpoint is the soaring, emotional surge of Apparat’s remix of Lusine’s ‘Drip’ shimmering upwards before alighting on Cloud’s ‘Those Days’ in its Jimpster’s Deep Dub incarnation. Lars makes his point with subtlety and taste, transporting the set effortlessly into the home listening arena.
