It can quite safely be said that Jalapeno is a label which lives up to its name. What with Kraak & Smaak, they seem to have plugged in to a strain of organic old skool funk, live-sounding instruments mingling with spot-on production to create jumping floor-burners. Dr Rubberfunk, of GPS label renown, starts by taking the spirit of the Incredible Bongo Band on ‘Beats Working’ and ‘Come Back Breaker’, injecting jazzy textures, 70s party brass and all-round B-boy-friendly whoopee. The flip’s ‘Part Of Me’ presents a different side being a cool soul ballad with subtle guitar and vocals by Sitzka. Quality.
