12″ 80’s Love
Universal Music TV

Oo-er missus, this is bound to bring back some school disco memories you’d rather have forgotten! But just in case you think 80s Love is a slushy cash-in for Valentine’s Day, I’m happy to inform you that while those songs exist on this compilation, there are some enjoyable slower grooves here too. So we’ll gloss over the horrors of Phyllis Nelson, Elton John’s ‘Nikita’ in extended ‘glory’ and Roxett, and head instead for Mica Paris’ ‘My One Temptation’ and Joyce Sims’ ‘Come Into My Life’ and Paul Hardcastle’s mix of the Walrus of Lurve, singing ‘Never Never Gonna Give You Up’. Other pleasures of the era come from Tears for Fears, Art of Noise and the wonderful ‘Someone, Somewhere In Summertime’, one of Jim Kerr’s finest moments for Simple Minds.
