Roger Watson aka DJ HAL puts his usual techno to one side to uncork his new Nerve project which charts more widescreen, beats-driven territory with sublime vocals from Bent’s Katty Heath. She brings in the track over ethereal piano before breaks appear for an outing somewhat recalling early 90s funky soul with a hallucinogenic sheen. ‘Good Idea’ sees Roger collaborating with Nottingham veterans the International People’s Gang to cook up an intoxicating spacey, jazz-tinged outing which can be described in the best possible taste as trip-hop. Guitars join in as it winds and swells for over six minutes into something quite magical in atmosphere and vibe. Highly promising.
