Portishead
The Rip
Island

Thanks to a stunning new album and plenty of live performances, you’ll already be aware that Portishead are well and truly back and in fine fettle, something this latest single only serves to underline. ‘The Rip’ is a dark folk tale, Beth Gibbon’s haunted voice interwoven with creaky electronics, before gradually evolving into an almost krautrock-esque sprint for the latter half. Feels far too short at just over four minutes, but that just gives you the opportunity to listen to it over and over and overÉ. Hugely recommended.
