Blimey, Soma now up to their 250th release and, quite typically, letting the occasion be marked by one of their recent new singings. Decimal hails from Northwest Indiana, a Let’s Go Outside-style techno subversive bent on distorting and bending the genre into startling new mutants. Lead track ‘Eleanor’ has already appeared on Slam’s Sc-Fi Hi-Fi Mix set, planting Elly Rifkin’s disembodied vocal over a queasily-unsettling backdrop of wobbly riffs and aural blackness. ‘Akkad’ is back alley minimalism which confirms the previous track’s suggestion that the man has already alighted on his own twisted agenda. ‘Automath’ is shadowy and industrial-strength while ‘Can Opener’ ropes in more vocal shards along with bathroom plumbing and a barrage of brain-melting efx. Truly a talent to watch.
