Wire
Object 47

It’s been 5 years since the release of ‘Send’, Wire’s last studio album, and then in 2006 they released the magnificent ‘Read And Burn 03’ EP. So on to pastures new and a couple of years down the line sees the arrival of ‘Object 47’, which captures the UK’s original art punks in a mellower mood. Their trademark jagged short sharp shocks have been rounded off a bit, and there’s not a disturbing sparse epic in sight, but ‘Object 47’ is still unmistakably Wire, with their distinct style and Colin Newman’s slightly sarcastic and ironic vocals. Who knows maybe this time round they might even get some radio play? No chance, Wire will always remain the outsiders, that’s part of their charm and that’s why we still regard them as more than a bit special.
