Feelgood music is a given when the Southport Weekender come out to play with a compilation, and this time (the seventh) they’ve been particularly imaginative in their choice of guest DJs. Mr Scruff is a striking addition, but his choices of breezy soul will win over even the most hardened of listeners, before falling into a hypnotic trance with Theo Parrish & Alena Walters’ ‘Soul Control’. Meanwhile Jazzanova go deeper with a more house-based mix, but this manages to give a hot weather feel with the likes of Henrik Schwarz, Osunlade, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Raymond Mang. This is warm-hearted party music, but works brilliantly well on the home stereo.
