Wave Machines are an arty outfit from Liverpool, that make very catchy pop with a slightly electronic psychedelic edge. The first thing you notice about ‘The Greatest Escape We Ever Made’ is how cute it is, especially with these lyrics, ‘I talked to you on the telephones we made, from tin cans we found lying in the shade’. But once the hooky melodies and off kilter wobbly bits get hold of you, it becomes a case of hang on a minute, this is really really good and it’s clever stuff, as you find yourself humming & singing it hours after you’d listened to it. Wave Machines tread a similar path to Hot Chip and MGMT, so if this single is anything to go by, we are going to be hearing a lot more of them in 2009.
