Mix The Vibe : Teddy Douglas & DJ Spen
King St

18th release in King Street Sound’s incredible and long-standing Mix The Vibe series. For this latest volume, Baltimore’s original Basement Boys outfit is represented by Teddy Douglas and DJ Spen (here in his The Muthafunkaz guise). Each get a CD to themselves to pull out some exclusives, classics and true house gems, stitching together 60 minutes plus of dancefloor heaven. Teddy Douglas kicks it all off in true style with the evergreen “House Music” acappella from Ananda Project over “Where The Music Takes You”, before daxxling with track from Kimara Lovelace, Roland Clark presents Urban Soul (the huge “Goodbye Love”), Quentin Harris, Kerri Chandler and more, ensuring a deep and smooth set from start to finish. Meanwhile, DJ Spen alternates between deep vocals and tracky dubs, showcasing cuts from Dennis Ferrer, Danell Dixon, Kerri Chandler, Big Moses (“Brighter Days” – stone cold classic), Studio Apartment feat Blaze, etc. It’s pure heads-down 2am material from start to finish. Two CDs, two classic styles, both deeply rooted in the soul of house music. Essential gear.
