The most impressive thing about ‘Schone Neue’ is its ability to travel spaceship-like through a whole range of colours and textures, a blend of ambience and more upfront motifs. Clearly the pair know their way round some analogue synths, with some inventive sounds used to make the texture glint round the edges. Most of the tracks are on the fast side, and there’s plenty going on, but the listener is still invited somehow to step back and hear the whole, rather than the elements, some of which whizz by in the foreground. A most impressive body of work, whose crowning glory is arguably the more perky ‘Wippsteert’.
