Will Saul has built up a solid reputation for fusing diverse electronic styles with spacily-melodic excursions since launching his Simple label in 2003. He started Aus Music in mid-2006 with Ninja Tunes’ Fink, aka Sideshow, whose ‘Scary Biscuits’ marked the first release. Each twelve has presented a different angle to the label’s diverse sonic smorgasbord, often presenting Will’s own productions and Lee Jones’ Detroit-influenced deep techno, here hitting Mayday flights on ‘Aria”s Lawrence remix while the mighty Prins Thomas does a stellar job suspending gravity on ‘There Comes A Time’: just two of the latter’s offerings on this set [not counting remixes], which revisits Aus Music’s first 20 releases as highlights mixed up by Saul, plus another CD presenting new signings and tracks from the roster. Saul’s trawl through his label’s highlights is captivating as MyMy ‘s ethereal ‘Butterflies And Zebras’ flows into a Lee Jones stretch which has becoming fathomlessly deep by the time it wafts into Sian’s ‘Appletree’, preparing the way for more delights including Motorcitysoul and Sideshow. The future looks bright too, with Roland Appel, Shur-I-Kan, Brooks, Pearson Sound, Applebim & Ramadanman, Martyn and MyMy joining the healthily-swelling roster. Well worth a hoist of the old turbo-keks.
