Texan Joe Corrales aka Yipph is set to unleash his second LP “They Know What Ghost Know”, a big but intimate sound feeding off a variety of influences. The opening “Son Saves The Rest” has got a fuzzy Joy Division feel, alongside heroin chic dressed in grey that builds with tension and trash. The current single “Gumball Machine Weekend” follows on a breezier note, with a knowing smile and a doff of the cap to northern soul. “Playing With Fireworks” comes over like a road trip through a shimmering sun baked desert with the law on your tail, and “Shutter Speed” is catching butterflies naked. “The Moon Scene 7” and the title cut “They Know What Ghost Know” wouldn’t sound out of place on Red Snapper’s “Prince Blimey”, yeah they really are that good, building into a blazing psychedelic wig out. It’s hard to pick highlights because it’s all good, but “City Glow” has got to get a mention, giving the impression of the life of a near derelict ballroom, from faded memory glory days to today’s skunk fuelled rockers and free party anarchists. Yppah has delivered an outstanding sophomore album, that’s gonna be the toast of many camp fires and tour buses this festival season. Every head should have one.
