Pathaan must surely be one of the most eclectic DJs around at the moment, and Globetronica looks set to be one of those series that introduces you to vibrant new sounds from around the world. The only slight criticism here is that he can move between different styles with bewildering speed at times – but that just means you need to give him another listen. CD2, not surprisingly subtitled ‘Eclectic Dance’, brings in two of his remixes to start with – the takes on The Orb’s ‘Vuja De’ and the Stereo MCs’ ‘Gringo’ both excellent, especially the latter with its teasing strings. We then move through Santogold, Klute and Duke Dumont as the party really gets going, ending with a knees-up from Russkaja. CD1 (‘Fusion Lounge’) starts with the more horizontal vibes of Nitin Sawhney and Shri, though by the end this too has moved up a gear. Stick with it and you’ll be rewarded with a whole host of new directions to explore.
