Minus

Even on the strength of last year’s Items & Things debut it was obvious that Sao Paulo’s Marco AS and Pedro Turra were up to something special. Now they plug effortlessly into that subtly sinister but mischievous Minus vibe like they’d sprouted from the label’s unfeasibly-large testicles with sizzling conjoining circuits as umbilical chords. Their debut EP is startling, slinky and beautifully executed, ‘Berlin Shades’ lashing a big boogie bass undertow with malevolent sci-fi purrs and raucous riff shards over crisply thudding groove before Lost Road getting weightier with tin cans tied to theb bell-end and acid head-fuck sonic swarms. ‘Some Toys’ recalls Laidback’s ‘White Horse’ groove-wise while pebbledashed with electro clicks and robotic goose manure. ‘Voxer’ could be the sickest cut with woozy bass action and projectile vomiting from the machines. Astounding debut.
