Paul Oakenfold has been making mix CDs for a good fifteen years now, and shows no sign of losing his enthusiasm for new dance music. With his residency in Las Vegas it makes sense to build a compilation around recent sets, and he shows he still hasn’t lost the art of pacing a compilation to perfection, even if the material he uses isn’t quite as top notch as previous Perfecto outings. That said, this is still a formidable couple of mixes, with CD1 looking at more melodic stuff (Joe Echo, Nat Monday and Elucidate) while CD2 drives that bit harder, with Barry Jay and several Robert Vadney tracks. The last of these, ‘Club Perfecto’, will split opinion with its boxer-type vocals, but overall this is Oakenfold showing that he’s still got what it takes.
