Alec Empire

1) Bad Brilliance “Quackhead”
New York is back. Santos Partyhouse is the club of the moment. I heard this the first time on Andrew WK’smixtape last Spring. Berlin has to stand at the back of the line, Los Angeles is approaching fast. The guy wears a red suit and a yellow light bulb on his head…this is the kind of beat which seizes the time.

2) Ye Olde Maids “Cocoa Cherubs”
Just got this as an mp3 but it sounds awesome. This is music which opens those doors to those dark rooms you were too afraid to enter. Love it.

3) Patrick Wolf “Tristan”
It’s an older song of Patrick, one of his best works in my opinion. There is no sense of history in pop music anymore. History gets lost in the constant stream of information. The industry keeps trying to pay for each buzz, but the meaning of a song like this in our time can’t be bought. Blind sheeple, watch out!

4) Brainticket “Egyptian Kings”
Every time I listen to this I remember being in this hotel room in Chicago ten years ago, after our show with Atari Teenage Riot had to be stopped after 20 minutes due to a knife fight and riot in the audience, cops came, blood, noise, screaming…back at the hotel I listened to this to calm down.

5) Motor “Death Rave”
Two guys with machines…the title says it all…all other hetero sexual male couples on stage with machines should stay at home, hold hands, watch football or whatever Chemical Brothers, Justice or Digitalism do these days when they remember their glory days, eating crisps…

6) Chrome “Chromosome Damage”
Chrome is one of the true influences on me when it comes to merging rock with electronics. I would choose listening to this track over free tickets to a MUSE concert any day. What a cool band name.

7) IAMX “Terrified” (Alec Empire Remix)
Chris wanted me to remix his single “Terrified”. It’s a beautiful song, not sure if this is out when this piece is published…but it felt like when I remixed Bjork for the first time ten years ago or so…He has a great voice, I blew it up with hard beats and huge synth and string sections…heavy basslines. This is the opposite of minimalism which has been going on for too long now.

8) Nic Endo “Sanctuary” (Video only version)
This track exactly matches my mood right now. It’s not officially out yet but this YouTube video is a little taster of her coming album. This was shot by her dad who was an army pilot in the 70ties during one of his training missions….very high up in the sky, in very dangerous situations but still meloncholic….

9) CX Kidtronik “Big Girl – Skinny Girl”
CX Kidtronik is Saul Williams DJ, now also working with Kanye West…who has suddenly become one of the most sympathetic rappers on my list after that MTV thing….this is hip hop like it is supposed to be: raw, nasty and full of energy…This guy doesn’t cruise, eating chicken wings, he hunts in the subway tunnels of New York, licking bones…UK hip hop or whatever they want to sell you next week…well, just forget it…dig in the US underground instead…

10) Deathface “We still kill the old…”
oh yes, we do! Deathface is from Brooklyn New York…but this kid on before The Prodigy and they’ll find any excuse not to go on…Deathface transports hardcore rave into the next decade. Adrenaline driven….and trust me when I say this , it’s not some paid for opinion which is included in some marketing budget. He has no record deal but remixed Autokratz. Awesome &dangerous….
