Back To Mine with Sonny Wharton

1. Leftfield – Swords

I came across this again recently going through some old music and instantly had to play it on repeat several times – I’d almost forgotten how powerful this sounds on a big system!

2. Nu Yorican Soul – Black Gold Of The Sun

Sunshine and good vibes – this record has it all!

3. MJ Cole – Sincere

Such a brilliant record that really shows off the sheer quality music that can come out of the UK. I still remember going into my local record store soooo excited to get a copy of this when it was released!

4. St Germain – Rose Rouge

Such a timeless record that always takes me back to college days and listening to Giles Peterson on Radio 1. Also brings a great sentiment within the hook – ‘I want you to get together…’

5. Angus & Julia Stone – Paper Aeroplane

A good friend of mine first put me onto this a few years ago after sending me a mix tape for my birthday… I’ve been hooked on it ever since.

6. Groove Armada – At The River

Always takes me back to great memories of Ibiza and summers spent there. Groove armada at their finest right here.

7. Ben E King – Stand By Me

Probably my all time favourite song. From the opening notes to the verses and chorus this is a sheer joy to listen to at any time of day.

8. Sia – Breathe Me

Sia is a genius and one of those timeless artists that transcends all genres. I could easily have picked any number of her records for this but went with this one today after rediscovering it recently in my record collection.

9. The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition

One of those records I’ve heard a million times and never ever tire of it. From festivals to clubs to parties to radio it always brings a smile to my face and a track that holds many great memories for me (including my first email convo with Guy from DMC a couple of years ago funnily enough).

10. Jose Gonzales – Heartbeats

Having heard this performed live in the glorious sunshine at The Big Chill Festival a few years ago it always reminds me of those times – It’s amazing how often just a simple guitar hook can be the backbone to such great music.

Sonny Wharton ‘Vice’ (SIZE Records)

British producer Sonny Wharton has announced the release of his new single ‘Vice’, out now via Steve Angello’s SIZE Records. Sonny’s latest tech-house serving embodies a driving bassline and irresistibly catchy vocals, partnered with a bold percussive break down.

Sonny’s remarkable production style has gained the attention of tastemakers including BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Danny Howard, as well as legendary hitmaker Fatboy Slim. Not stopping there, Carl Cox championed the British producer’s hit single ‘Raindance’ as his ‘Ibiza Tune Of The Summer’ for his Review Show on Radio 1.

Elsewhere, Sonny has played sets across Europe, Asia and America. Closer to home, he has previously performed at Glastonbury, V Festival, Global Gathering and Isle of Wight Festival. This year, Sonny will be returning to the festival circuit this summer, where he will play alongside the likes of Chase & Status, Sigala, Wilkinson and Fatboy Slim at Beats For Love Festival in the Czech Republic.
