01. GEORGE FITZGERALD / PASSING TRAINS
George Fitzgerald is one of the most underrated producers on the planet. His productions are always a cut above the rest and this is no exception.
02. TANGERINE DREAM – LOVE ON A REAL TRAIN
You can’t like electronic music and not like ‘Love On A Real Train’.. This is a good as it gets .
03. KERALA DUST – THE CHAIN
This is a quality cover of Fleetwood Mac’s, The Chain.. It’s a haunting, hypnotic, downtempo affair that slowly builds with a subtle intensity.
04. THE SOVIET UNION – EMPTY HEAD
Cinematic Italo business with all manner of samples and synthesizers conjuring up visions of a train making its way into the night. I genuinely wish this track was about 30m minute long. It’s a mini masterpiece.
05. ERASURE – LEAVE ME TO BLEED (VINCE CLARKE RMX)
I’m a big fan of 80’s synth pop and could have picked any number of Depeche Mode tracks but this Erasure remix is excellent and the main riff in the middle of the track floors me every time!
06. BEANFIELD / TIDES (CARL CRAIG RMX)
This track leaves me torn. Its has one of the greatest vocals in the history of dance music over one of the worst kicks in the history of dance music. If you don’t believe me, try mixing it .. Still love it mind you!
07. RED LIGHT – EQUINOX
Even though it’s new, this track reminds me of bombing about the rave scene all over the South of England during the summer of 91.. You never knew where you were going to end up; squatted hotels, farmer’s barns, new age traveller’s camp. Wherever you ended up you could be pretty much guaranteed there’d be a breakbeats involved!
08. THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS – THE GOLDEN PATH (EWAN PEARSON VOCAL)
Massive fan of Ewan Pearson’s production and when he combines with The Chemical Brothers & Wayne Coyne to add his remix magic to a psychedelic yarn about god, demons and cosmic paths, he strikes gold!
09. LCD SOUNDSYSTEM – BEAT CONNECTION
There were so many overrated, over-hyped acts and tracks from the noughties indie disco era but LCD stand head and shoulders above all of them. Their sharp, witty lyrics over raw, angular rhythms and loose percussion workout are irresistible.
10. JOY DIVISION / DISORDER
Because it’s the greatest track of all time…
