Back To Mine with Kylie Auldist

Described as ‘the high priestess of Melbourne soul’ Kylie was best known as the lead singer of The Bamboos and an incredible solo artist in her own right before shooting to international prominence in 2016 thanks to the monster summer anthem ‘This Girl’ (Kungs vs Cookin’ feat. Kylie Auldist,) – her sublime vocals broke charts across the world. The remix reached #1 on single charts globally and has been streamed over 1 billion times on Spotify and YouTube alone. Autumn 2020 saw the release of Kylie’s fifth artist album ‘This Is What Happiness Looks Like’ to great acclaim. As she releases her ‘Is It Fun / I Get It EP’  remix EP, featuring reworks by Richard Earnshaw and The Waz, DMCWorld goes Back To Kylie’s for some home listening…

Frank Ocean – Sweet Life

My son Reggie was playing this in his car and singing along to it so beautifully – I asked who it was, and surprisingly it was a name I could actually remember! I got so addicted to the Channel Orange album. It brings up beautiful memories for me and I bring it out and dust it off on special nights!

Anderson.Paak – Am I Wrong

My sons and their respective musical choices are ten years apart so when they both connected on this song and shared it with me I was pretty happy! Like a safe combination it’s an old & new R’n’B classic all in one. This is ‘the’ afterparty kitchen dance track!

Raydio – Jack And Jill

Ray Parker Jnr is fabulous, and I knew this at the age of 11! Some songs you out grow, but that just never happened with this song. If I like someone enough to ask them over then I will probably share this song with them, and if they can sing along with the BV’s they will be invited back!

Pointer Sisters – Automatic

Sibling harmonies are magical and when you add it to 80s song writing perfection it makes for excellent expression in dance – which is important when you want to throw a successful house party for 2 or more! Ruth Pointer’s low voice (contralto) was interesting to me. These voices don’t often feature in pop even now.

Beyonce – Formation

My nieces Molly and Jess showed me this song when it first came out and I was so impressed. I liked Beyonce but hadn’t seen her be as strong as this. I was really happy that she was positively influencing young Australian girls.

Hp Boyz Featuring Keziah – Out Here

I love Aussie Hip hop and this song features my beautiful and talented niece Keziah. I’m so happy to see her get a shot at working and writing with a crew like this. The song went to #1 in NZ. Keziah is a talented singer songwriter in her own right.

Saun And Star – Hot Shot

My friend DJ Miss Goldie educates me in so many ways and this is a song she shared with me from her good friends Saundra Williams and Starr Duncan.  These amazing singers sang background vocals for Sharon Jones & the Dapkings. All these women are inspirational ground breakers for me.

Tweet – Boogie

A million parties ago we were loving on a playlist by the Nextmen and there was the tiniest sample of this song in one of the tracks. I didn’t know how to find out what the song was (cos it didn’t show up on shazam) so I took ages to find it and now I have, I play it all the time!  It brings great memories of parties at my aunty Frances’s place dancing with my brothers.

Chaka Khan – One For All Time

I cried when I heard this song. I’ve been a Chaka fan for so long and I was thinking it was over for her and that she may not come back from the brink of where her life had taken her. So to hear her perfect voice intact with such honest and beautiful songs was such a relief. If you end up back at mine we will go there!

Aretha Franklin – Wonderful

Just when I thought I’d heard it all and knew everything about Aretha, my friend DJ Mike Gurrieri played this on the radio, and I realised I knew nothing! This song was released late in her career, but her voice control was still perfect, ageless and timeless. Just an excellent smackdown to every singer in the world!  If you don’t like this song chances are you will never see the inside of my house!

ARETHA FRANKLIN-wonderful
