Back to Mine with Third Attempt

Beatservice Records bring together two of the most beloved artists on their roster for the Third Attempt remixes of Kohib’s magnificent ‘Sidewalk Confessions’. Both Kohib and Third Attempt have been in dazzling form recently, with a reliable stream of impactful releases on this Tromsø-based label. DJ, producer and club promoter Øivind ‘Kohib’ Sjøvoll’s most recent effort came in the form of the scintillating ‘Golden Skies’, while fast-rising young producer Torje Fagertun Spilde aka Third Attempt blew the roof off with his latest backroom bangers, ‘Age Of Steam’ and ‘Nu Funk’ from The Novel Sound album. Here, Beatservice unites the two glowing talents by getting Third Attempt to remix Kohib’s ‘Sidewalk Confessions’ from last year. DMCWORLD grab a Back To Mine 10, which is rather beautiful…

Royksopp – Poor Leno

Royksopp’s debut album Melody AM made a major impact on me as a young music-enthusiast. What I love about this record is that it’s so versatile. This track in particular can adapt to so many spaces, people and periods. Works just as well for home listening as for a packed club. I guess that’s what makes it timeless.

Groove Armada – Superstylin

Groove Armada has deeply influenced me in my later years. When I randomly picked up a chillout compilation CD at a thrift store, a track from this album was included. I think it was “lazy moon”, instantly grabbing my attention. When I checked out the whole LP (goodbye country, hello nightclub) I got properly hooked to their sound. Superstylin is a nod to the glory days of drum and bass, funky house, dub, MCs and club culture in general. Lyrics never fail to set me in the right mood, and the bassline is top tier. Energizing stuff.

Daft Punk – Revolution 909

Legendary track that still gets playtime in my DJ sets. Who can dislike Homework?

Gramatik – Break Loose

Sample flip of James Brown’s Payback is still unmatched. Slow groove, but impossible to stand still. I recommend the whole album, has some insane beats throughout.

Nightmares on wax – Les nuits

Another timeless track, which I never get tired of. Those calming strings together with the funky bassline can go on forever IMO.

Nightmares on Wax - Les Nuits

Mr Scruff – Jazz Potato

Perfect example of less is more. The patience of this track is something to learn from. Every element sits where it belongs, wrapping into a near perfect arrangement.

LTJ Bukem – Watercolours

One of the first DnB / Chillout tracks I ever listened to. And a big, big inspiration source ever since I was a teenager. What’s crazy is that when I discovered this track, I think I just searched for “electronic music” in the Youtube search bar, and man was I lucky to hit the goldmine that is LTJ Bukem.

Floating Points – Arp3

Goosebumps every time. The chords, the synths, the swinging drums, the rumbling bassline. All beautifully executed. As a musician, this is another important lesson in patience and saying true to your ideas.

Bugge Wesseltoft – Poem

My dad had this on CD, and we used to play it in his car while commuting together. The whole album is a very innovative blend between jazz and electronica. But this track stands out for me. So much that I even did my own remix of it at one point. Bugge has since become a friend & mentor through the initiative Talent Norge, and we are working on some new things together.

Todd Terje – Strandbar

One of my favorite tracks from Todd Terje. Groove in this is just insane. If you aim to make people dance, make sure to put this on.
