Paul Reynolds

One of the superstars of Ibiza; the resident DJ at some of the biggest club nights on the planet, part of the unstoppable Melon Bomb quartet, a chef who could walk into any kitchen on the island and cook up a treat and best of all, a proper top bloke. DMCWORLD checks in with Paul Reynolds as he unveils his first new track of summer 2023…

Hey Paul, a huge welcome to DMCWORLD. Where in the world are you right now?

Hey Dan, lovely to speak to you, I am at home in Ibiza.

A really exciting time for you at the moment, Ibiza season is underway and also you have a new release out. Please talk us through the new track ‘Flipside’ … and the connection to Tasty Lopez…

Yes it seems like we have been open for months over here as it was a early start to the season (is it winter yet?) haha! My new track started out called ‘Chicken Flips’ and had no vocals on it as I though it had a nod to the classic Chicken Lips track with the bassline. After playing it to my agent Lucy she suggested changing the name, so I quickly changed it to ‘Flipside’ as it’s the first thing that came into my head. I then sent it to a good friend Daisy-Belle and she said she has the perfect person that would sound amazing on it! Fast forward a few weeks and we have this incredible track, Tasty is one of these talents that lives and breaths the music, you can really feel that in her lyrics! You were one of the first people to hear it Dan, so by the time this comes out hopefully it will be signed!

So Ibiza. 2023 rocking already. Where are your main residencies on the white island this summer?

I am really lucky to be resident in both Ushuaia and Hi Ibiza for Future Rave, Black Coffee and Fuck Me I’m Famous – along with Glitterbox dates with my Melon Bomb brothers.

I have lost count of the amount of people who cite the Wild Corner at Hï Ibiza is the best clubbing on the planet. Low ceiling, up close and personal, house party vibes… what’s it like to DJ in there and why is it so good?

It’s my favourite room anywhere to play and an absolute privilege every time I play there! It’s so intimate and the sound is incredible – it’s like playing to a load of your mates at a house party. Nothing beats it.

As you mention, you are resident DJ at some of the biggest parties in the world – Black Coffee, David Guetta etc. – do you share a Hierbas with these guys at the end of the night or is straight home to bed?

My party and drinking days are well over now, so it’s straight home for some meditation, a mug of tea and some toast!

No photo description available.3 big tracks you are spinning at the moment…

  1. Paul Reynolds feat Tasty Lopez – Flipside
  2. DJ Tennis, Ashee and Lady Donli – One My Own (Acid Dub)
  3. Mele – Norway Edit

Aside from the superclub, you are also resident with your Melon Bomb chums at the legendary Pikes once a month. There’s nowhere quite like Freddie’s when it goes off – what’s your favourite Pikes story of wrongness?

All our Melon Bomb parties are always special, but my favoutie memory of Pikes wrongness was at Halloween – sucking the boob of a rubber witch and drinking spacial punch out if it! The rest of the night I don’t remember!

What does your son think of daddy’s music?

Henri absolutely loves his music; he really feels it and it so exciting playing him new records and watching his little face! His favourite songs are The Jam ‘Town Called Malice’, The Clash ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’ and Culture Club ‘Karma Chameleon’.

What is coming next from you studio wise?

I am working on another track with Tasty actually, this one’s called ‘Headspace’ – so looking forward to gettting this finished!

Away from the music, you are also an amazing chef. Where the fuck did that come from and what is your speciality dish?

I grew up with a family who lives and breathes food and music so everything I do is a natural progression from my life, my mum is an incredible cook she has a way of making the most amazing tasty food and my dad makes the best paella in the world! (he’s had a lot of practice haha) My speciality dish is clams and mussels in Chorizo XO sauce a recipe from my mate Josh Katz’s book. I am salivating just thinking about it!

And finally, Ibiza has had it’s knockers over the years, but it’s seen off the likes of Mykonos, Croatia, Cyprus etc. – you and your family are settled there now, why is it the best place on earth to live?

Ibiza is the best place because of the people that live here. They all have the same amazing energy for living life to the fullest and are a complete bunch of wrong-uns, each in their own beautiful, special way.
