Back To Mine With Benchek

Benchek was born in Casablanca and brings together the classic sounds of melodic house with the groovy beats of Afro-tech. Early in his career he won a Defected Records competition and played at the Ministry Of Sound and has been on the rise ever since. Malaga-born Moshem is a versatile artist whose music has been played by the likes of Marco Carola, Jamie Jones and Solardo, among many others. As his new collaboration with Moshem, ‘Your Everything’, drops on connected, DMCWorld goes back to mine with Benchek.

Mahmoud Guinia – Assamaoui

I’m going to start with one of my biggest sources of inspiration, Gnaoua music which (like me) originates from Morocco. I love listening to Gnaoua because I have so many memories of going to the Essaouira Festival in Morocco with my parents and my sister when I was a kid. We went every year for 9 years in a row! I get goosebumps every time I listen to Gnaoua, especially this masterpiece from Maalem Guinia. He’s simply amazing!

Rumbo Tumba – La Línea del Río

I listen to a lot of Downtempo music and I find it hugely inspiring as well. I particularly love this track because it takes you on a special journey, especially through the different instruments that are added as the track evolves. The bass and guitar melody are just outstanding.

Nightcrawlers – Push The Feeling On

This was the first time I was ‘hit’ by house/electronic music. It also reminds me of my sister, I have such good memories of her vibing on this tune. I love it and still has the same effect on me all these years later.

Koloke – West Afrikan Guitar Groove

The ultimate track for sunsets. The guitar chords are just incredible…

Manqo – Won’t Change (Rampa Retouch)

Everything about the production side of this song is too good to be true: the toms, hats, bass, melody, vocals… I mean, does it get any better? I think I could listen to this record on repeat all day and not get bored.

Yeahman – Wadi Rum

The perfect way to start the day, especially during sunrise. I really love everything Yeahman does through his artistic productions. I deliberately chose this live video because everything about it is inspiring: the instruments, the vocals, the landscape… Uplifting!

Keinemusik – Before the Flood feat. Cubicolor (Ankhoï Remix)

Ankhoï is a super-talented artist. His dreamy touch on his productions is magnificent, and this track is proof of that. Inspiring!

Butch – Dope

An absolute feel-good track. I chose this ‘funny’ live edit from Butch specifically because it’s representative of the entire record and captures that moment when you get together with your friends to party/celebrate. It’s shiny, it’s sparkling, everyone is happy…Love it!

BUTCH - Dope [Play It Say It]

Joe Cuba – A Las Seis

A fantastic cuban classic that I like to listen to frequently!

Maallem Said Damir & Gnawa Allstars – Bania Reds

Had to close this ‘Back to Mine’ with another Gnaoua beauty! It literally touches the deep emotions of the soul.

Benchek & Moshem ‘Your Everything’ is out now on connected.
