The deadly duo from Zurich tearing it up with their new EP on DiYnamic

Interview : Dan Prince

Guys welcome to DMCWORLD, where in the world are you right now?

“Hey Dan, right now in our kitchen cooking some proper food before the weekend.”

An amazingly exciting time for you at the moment, signing to DiYnamic and now releasing your second full EP ‘Lophobia’. Talk us through the EP…

“The EP was a long time coming as we were touring so much and it was pretty hard to spend time in the studio besides that. That’s why the record is called ‘Lophobia’. It mirrors the struggles and happiness we had during this year. The EP is a fully instrumental record with a lot of synth melodies everything is composed and programmed by ourselves.”

Going back to 2011 when DiYnamic showed an interest in ‘Deep In The Three’ and Solomun kicked the shit out of the tune in his sets, how annoying was waiting for that vocal clearance – were you worried the tune was going to slip through your fingers?

“At one point we didn’t even think it would be cleared ’cause it took that long. But as you said, we already had the interest in the tune and the communication was there. But to be honest when we got the message that it had been cleared, we were pretty happy! We got a lot of very nice feedback besides Solomun and a lot of big names supported the track.”

How important is the team play between the kick and the bassline to you, who is responsible for what in the studio?

“I would say one of the key players in our music Adrian blond spends hours and days ’till we get it sounding the way we want it to. Props for him and his patience.”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning…

HC – Uner Remix

Eric Volta – Love your Illusion

Baikal – Why Don’t Ya (Ripperton Remix / Dixon Edit)

Stefan Z – No Words

Sandrino & Franky – Save

Manoo – Agoe

David August – Epikur

Tiga & Audion – Let’s Go Dancing (Solomun Remix)

Ricardo Villalobos – 808 The Bass Queen

Recondite – Riant

So let’s talk about Sankeys Ibiza 2013. An incredible summer for the underground club of the year, you were residents at Solomun’s DiYnamic Neon Nights…how was the summer for you?

“The summer was busy as we only skipped one night for our Americas Tour. We definitely had a big summer in Ibiza, to be with the crew every week having the barbecue before each heavy night was awesome. We felt a lot of support inside and outside the DiYnamic family!”

Anthem of the summer?

“Vaal – Cine (Mind Against Remix).”

What was your favourite night of the summer?

“One of the nights we did the closing in the Sankeys Basement and it was ridiculous. The temperature was rising minute by minute and at one point we all felt, this is it.”

Tell us what you love and hate about Ibiza?

“There is definitely a special vibe going on on this island. I guess that’s why Sven Väth discovered the island at the age of 17 or so and is still there. There are beautiful places to stay or to have food, special little after parties going on all the time and to perform week in and out in front of different ravers is great. But we don’t support these heavy price politics which is going on there and of course there are a lot people who know the clubs from magazines and TV but don’t even care who’s playing there. They just heard there are 3000 other people there and so it must be a great night…”

Your appearances at the Cityfox events in New York have been nothing short of legendary, for our readers who haven’t been to these all day, all night Brooklyn events…can you describe just what these parties are all about…

“I tell them to come by if you have the chance. The guys always bring it to another level! The production is totally self made, for example at the last one there was the premier of a totally new KV2 3D sound system which was almost overwhelming. The 3D Visual Mapping on the buildings were insane too.”

How are you finding the New York crowds to an Ibiza dancefloor?

“In Ibiza most of the people’s priority are the parties. So they come to the club, maybe have one drink and then hit the dancefloor. The New York people are picky and that makes it very demanding and that’s fun too.”

You have just completed a quick Americas tour, what were some of the highlights on the tour for you?

“As said before Cityfox for sure, the LA Rooftop party was sick too. We always are very welcomed in Lima, Peru as we were also in the middle and South America. Actually most of the gigs and people we met were great. The experience overall makes us already thinking about the next one.”

Are you the type of producers who can work whilst on tour or is it a case of there’s nowhere like home…?

“To be honest we did a few things in Ibiza, but ’till now we were not the type of guys who could do something good on the plane or in hotels. But its definitely worth a try in the next months.”

If you could change one thing about each other what would it be?

Adrian dark: “That Adrian should listen to me more and be more relaxed on flights.”

Adrian blond: “Adrian dark should be just a little more of a perfectionist.”

Okay rumour mill time, what can you tell us about…

Some big remixes about to drop?

“We are going to remix the Codec & Flexor track “Time Has Changed” which is quite big.”

The new Culprit EP?

“Still too many rumours at the moment, in the making/deciding.”

A tour of Brazil?

“Gonna be at the Warung Club Birthday on the 1st of November and then the Anzu Club, a short trip but two big Nights we guess.”

Away from Ibiza and New York – what were your stand out gigs of 2013…Tomorroworld in Atlanta must have been off the hook?

“DiYnamic had it’s very own festival in Amsterdam and Berlin, both were of the hook. ADE just last week was sick too as we had the big DiYnamic Showcase on Thursday and the nice little intimate party on Friday. We also played the Closing Set at the Buiten Westen Festival….and also a lot of our club gigs were highlights…”

Who is the best new producer you have heard in 2013?

“Baikal – not new but new!”

Dream collab?

“Hans Zimmer maybe?”

And finally, what is the club scene like in your home city of Zurich…any cool clubs and DJs you are giving high fives to right now?

“The scene is great although we feel there is a little change going on at the moment which is pretty normal. We love the Zukunft Club where we have our own night regularly. It’s always fun to play at the Hive Club which is well known in Europe. Guys like Dejan from Cityfoy or Mihael form our crew and are great DJs. There are some young guys which have a thing going on named Punkt. They are already making some big waves there. Of course there are also a lot of big names coming from all over the country which are known everywhere.”
