Gil Bokobza is one of the most vibrant Afro house and Afro Tech artists in the scene right now. He hails from Israel and has a sound steeped in soul. His music has graced labels such as MoBlack, Madorasindehouse and many more. As his new single ‘Bayede’ ft. Philasande drops on connected, DMCWorld for back to mine with Gil Bokobza.
Scorpions – Holiday
One of the songs my father used to play on the guitar when I was young. I love it just as much today as I did then.
Michael Jackson – Remember The Time
One of the most important artists that changed how I perceived pop music. I couldn’t stop watching this video on my parents’ VCR when I was a kid.
Daft Punk – One More Time
Iconic electronic duo, very cool clip, they always represent innovation in music to me.
Asaf Avidan – The Labyrinth Song
A brilliant Israeli artist. This track has an amazing combination of vocals and lyrics that still surprises me every time.
Eminem – Stan ft. Dido
An artist who gave me a lot of inspiration for my career. Never give up and keep going no matter what they say, until you reach the goal. I think the story of this song takes it to the next level.
Gipsy Kings – Trista Pena
The Spanish groove they bring always touches my soul.
Scooter – The Logical Song
‘When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical’ – great memories from my teenage years.
Linkin Park – In The End
Everything is here, just listen.
Bob Dylan – One More Cup Of Coffee
I don’t remember when I heard this song for the first time, but since then it’s always been there with me. Bob Dylan is a legend and his songs are timeless.
Sona Jobarteh – GAMBIA
I’ve been exposed to all types of music in my life, and as a producer I’ve always been looking for where I feel most at home. I’ve found that I feel most at home through African music, as it includes all the elements I’m used to from my Moroccan roots. Exploring it has opened up a whole new world for me that I continue to explore more and more.
Sona is an excellent artist, I chose her song to close my list because it’s a great example of the elements I connect to, percussion, guitar, wonderful vocal and African rhythm. These elements are all key parts of my music today.
Gil Bokobza ‘Bayede’ ft. Philasande is out now on connected.
