Orbital live @ The 02 Academy, Leeds, Thursday June 11th.
The Sevenoaks duo Phil Hartnoll and Paul Hartnoll hit Leeds midweek in the middle of their nationwide tour. Two guys who were influenced by early Electro and Punk Rock but went on to be one of the biggest Electronic/Techno bands clubland has ever seen, split up in 2004 but four years later reformed – thank the lord. See you down the front when ‘Chime’ and ‘Belfast’ come on.
Lady Sovereign live @ The Academy, Manchester, Friday June 12th.
Miss Louise Harman raps to the Manc massive. A brilliant rags to riches story, growing up in the Chalk Hill council estate and now rocking the stage worldwide. Completely in yer face, always a great show. Love the fact that she was inspired by her mum’s Salt-N-Pepa’s albums and learnt to MC standing in front of a mirror with a can of hair spray.
Torture Garden June Ball @ Club Colosseum, London, Friday June 12th.
Four rooms of utter madness. The Club Arena sees twisted performances by Lazio Pearlman, Fancy Chance and Vicky Butterfly plus cage installations by Kazaya and DJs Scottee, Allen TG, King K, Jimmy Mofo spinning Electro and Nu Skool breaks. Down in the Dungeon Boudoir it’s all ambient and erotica sounds, The Burlesque Lounge will ring your ears out to Neo Swing (whatever the fuck that is), Berlin Cabar. et and sleazy Rock & Roll whilst over in the Couples Play Room – don’t ask. Okay if you really want to know, body mutilation visuals and fetish/porn art. You know the dress code here – it’s Torture Garden for chrissakes. www.torturegarden.com
Back To Basics @ The White House, London, Friday June 12th.
Blimey. South London won’t know what’s going to hit them. The maddest club promoter and DJ in the world brings a very special and surprise selection of guest DJs down to the capital for a whammer of a party. This is the guy who took over the decks at my sister’s wedding in a stately home and started playing drum n’ bass and punk. And I am not even going to talk about what he got up to at the DMC in Miami last year. I’m just glad I didn’t have to wash the sheets.
Habit Ibiza Party @ The Bulls Head, Birmingham, Friday June 12th.
Okay a couple of things. One I hate club promoters who bill their events ‘Ibiza Specials/Party/Reunion’ – you’re just trying to cash in – the same way Sundissential keep on putting on these ‘Tony de Vit’ reunions – it’s just shit. Move forward people, the clubbers deserve more. However, the reason this party is featured is because Ibiza little legend Danny Whitehead is playing, one of the loveliest men in dance music. Just hope he’s had a hair cut.
2 Many DJs live @ The 02 Brixton Academy, London, Friday June 12th/Saturday June 13th.
What can you say about these guys? David Dewale and Stephen Dewale are two of the most entertaining DJ duos out there. What started out as a hobby mix project has now blown up massively, Soulwax in the house spinning dance classics, reggae, house, rock and anything they bloody want to. A right mash up. Belgium style.
Subliminal Sessions @ The Ministry of Sound, Saturday June 13th.
A total roadblock. Mr Party Superstar Erick Morillo returns to London with a seven hour set no less kicking his Miami vibe all over the place. Jazzy M mashes up The Bar spinning us around with his infamous Jackin’ House whilst ‘Housexy’ resident Richard Murray pumps up the sweet House music. Check out the Baby Box too where The Ministry of Sound DJ Academy takes place. A cracker.
Sevensins @ The Honey Club, Brighton, Saturday June 13th.
A masterclass in ‘all over the shop’. Brandon Block in the house in one of the most beautiful venues in the UK. Think minimalist, white, St Martins Lane Hotel and you’re getting there. So what this nutbag is doing here is anyone’s guess. But he’ll rock the dancefloor. This guy has more stories than Jackanory.
