THE ZOO PROJECT @ THE ABANDONED ZOO
Spiritual underground movement The Zoo Project, will open the gates of the abandoned Zoo on 20th June for its fourth season of extraordinary parties. It’s feeding time and you’re all invited…Set in the hills of Benimussa, this disused zoo is the last open-air venue left in Ibiza. Animal cages and a seal pit are just a few of the idyllic features that make this like no other on the island. Across four arenas of groovy, deep and underground house music, the Zoo Project presents live acts, animal dancers, vinyl only artists and some of the best and most talented rising stars and producers. For this opening you will be treated to the deep house and techno delights of Johnny D in a special live set. From the town of Mannheim, Germany, Johnny is one of a number of exceptional producers to be born out of this area. His eclectic mix of sounds, many signed to Oslo and 8bit Records, were just made for a party like this – he will be playing alongside 12 Zoo Project residents from 12 different countries . You will find the Zoo Project at the 2,500 capacity zoo every Saturday from 20th June to 5th September for the closing party. More acts and details to be announced soon.

SUPERMARTXE @ PRIVILEGE
How can you even begin to explain what happened to Supertmartxe last summer? From just another ‘out there’ party, using sex and taboo as its allure, to filling the biggest club in the world every week and causing a right raucous along the way. Surely nobody could have predicted this, what started out in 2008 as a mainly free party, ended it by selling upwards of 5000 tickets a party. Think Manumission meets Matinée, only pushed right to the limit – amazing production, stunning choreography, fireworks and of course, plenty of drag, six-packs and silicone. Taboo is used everywhere, from the crass flyers (that lead to them being fined last year) depicting needles, guns and what can only be described as porn, through to erotic club shows and atmosphere that resembles vice city, or worse something trying to be it. It represents the glam and the outrageous, grandiose flamboyance that Ibiza is renowned for and attracts millions each year, yet it represents nothing of the dance music scene it is spawned from. Ultimately then, it’s very much a love it or hate it party, much like Manumission used to be and I guess on that note, you probably have to see it at least once. DJs such as Juanjo Martin, Hugo Sanchez and Vitti rocking it.
Supertmartxe Friday Nights @ Privilege Ibiza, from June 19th to October 2nd
TUESDAYS AMNESIA/RELEASE YOURSELF
Armin van Buuren’s relentless trance brigade just refuses to budge. Deemed unpopular, irrelevant and washed up by the techno masses a few years back, the Dutch man returns again this summer, taking to the helm of Amnesia’s main room for an impressive sixth season behind the decks at one of the islands most notorious clubs. Love it or loathe it then, trance still has a genuine following on the White Isle. So when the promoters announced Ibiza’s biggest transfer since Tongy jump shipped to San Antonio, that house don Roger Sanchez would be joining Armin on Tuesday’s by playing on the infamous Terrace, the general consensus between Ibiza veterans prompted more than a few chin wags and raised eyebrows. It promises to be one of 2009’s most intriguing bookings. It is a transition, according to Sanchez “that provides me with a different perspective on dance floor dynamics and also gives my ‘Release Yourself’ team a fresh canvas on which to express the passion of the party.” Whether Sanchez was pushed to leave Pacha or simply decided to up sticks and move to Amnesia can only be speculated, though the financial backing he allegedly demanded should keep his sideburns in check and a fresh Kangol hat on his head for years to come. Though it’s on a vastly different scale in terms of longevity and success, the promoters would do well to study the Manumission story and ensure that Release Yourself is as successful in Amnesia as it was in Pacha. Ying and Yang or a disastrous marriage between two dramatically dissimilar artists? It’ll be interesting to see how this turns out…Watch out for guests such as Laidback Luke and Tom Stephan plus mammoth 8 hour sets from these dons…
Tuesdays Amnesia / Release Yourself June 30th – September 15th.
