Luca C & Brigante

‘Flash of Light’ – the next spark of brilliance from the even more ubiquitous duo

“When a friend of mine introduced me to the music of Luca C & Brigante I was stuck with an apocalyptic feeling, as if I were listening to the sound of a party at the end of the world. And with such strong imagery coming to mind I was only too happy to write with them when they asked. ‘Flash of Light’ is about that last night on earth, a forewarning of the end of an era and a last chance to Love” – Róisín Murphy

Luca C & Brigante are beginning to need no introduction as their heady Balearic mix of sounds continue to resonate from the beach to the club. Together, they have dropped bombs such as ‘Different Morals’ feat. Ali Love and the Robert Owens fronted ‘Tomorrow Can Wait’. Luca C is also one half of Infinity Ink, whose ‘Infinity’ has been one of the summer’s biggest records, and a new addition to Hot Natured alongside Jamie Jones, Ali Love and Lee Foss. Sebi aka Brigante has remixed the new single from Ali Love, about to drop on No.19. Aligning with the ancient Mayan prophecy that the end of the world is due December 21st 2012, Luca C & Brigante’s new single ‘Flash Of Light’ featuring dance music icon Róisín Murphy is a call to love like there’s no tomorrow. Embedded in heavy reverb and stripped back to slow steady drums, the mood rises as Róisín’s crystalline vocals fall into rhythm and weightlessness builds with the bassline hook, pearly high-pitched strings and a burst of harmonic percussion. On remix duty, Diynamic boss Solomun works his dancefloor magic, funking up the bassline and releasing effervescent synths into the mix. Italian duos Tale Of Us & Mind Against unite and deliver a darkly luminous alternative with their hypnotic percussive groove complete with epic finale. Last but not least, fast-rising Montreal born / London based duo Blond:ish supply swirling textures in their solid moody tech workout. Dan Prince checks in with the men on fire…

Luca,Brigante – wow! ‘Flash of Light’ featuring the heavily pregnant tones of Roisin Murphy has been causing some serious damage in The Buzz Chart office these last couple of weeks. Your press team claim the collaboration between you two “was born in London in 2009 over the love of love, glaring stars, crushing waves and analogue synths.” What actually happened, where did you meet and why did you decide to form this partnership?

“We met randomly at some warehouse party. Spoke briefly about synthesizers but nothing really happened until a year later.”

Why is Ibiza such a special place for you – the magic it seems will never die…

“Ibiza is a special place full stop.  No one can argue that there is an unlikely combination of freedom, nature, and interesting electronic music showcasing.  We were just lucky to find out about it.”

Away from the clubs in ibiza, where will find you hanging out?

“In supermarkets buying food!”

Luca you are part of Infinity Ink whose ‘Infinity’ track has been one of the anthems of the summer that the fabulous Crosstown Rebels brought us. Couple of questions…did you know you had a massive track on your hands with it?

“We made it in one afternoon, it was just a jam, I had the music ready for a while, then Ali freestyled some lyrics over the top and the song was made..I liked it, whether it was gonna be a hit or not I didn’t really know, I don’t ask myself those kind of questions, I’m glad people enjoyed it though.”

…and also, how the hell have you survived Ibiza with Jamie Jones and his non stop party antics??!!

“We’re known on the island for throwing the best tea parties (at Jamie’s villa)…he’s really into baking so we have the best afternoon tea and cake sessions, listening to afro jazz music..Ali love makes great cups of tea too…”

Hmm. Well what is the current top 10 you are spinning?

Ali Love – Playa
L&B- Flash Of Light
DJ Tennis – Outcast (Morgan Geist Mix)
Hot Natured & Ali Love – Benediction
Vaal – Cine
Infinity Ink – Infinity (Richy Ahmed mix)

Your soundtrack is so diverse – who are the artists that you were listening to growing up that has helped mold your sound today?

“Listening to music of all varieties is definitely a major part of how we approach music writing.  At times it has felt like people making electronic music avoided all other genres at all costs.  We just try to listen to music that connects with us emotionally – techno, house, reggae, soft rock or even the mazzurca.”

Was there a record that changed your life?

Non Credere – Lucio Battisti
The Specials – The Specials

Who would be the five dead or alive celebrities you invite round for the ultimate dinner party?

“Roisin Murphy, Brigitte Bardot, Lady Chatterley, Hunter S Thompson (to document) and Terence Mckenna – that should make an interesting evening

Aside from dance music, who are the artists you are currently listening to at home or in the car?

“Ariel Pink, Mina, Beach House and Fleetwood Mac.”

Who brings what to the studio set up – who excels where?

“I’d say Brigante excels on the technical side of things and I’m more on the musical/arranging side, but we often swap.”

What one artist would be a dream vocal collab to get into the studio for you?

“Syd Barrett and Talking Heads (the whole band).”

Who are the producers from around the world you are giving high fives to at the moment?

“Tale of Us, Mano Le Tough, Vaal, Clockwork, Lee Curtiss, James What…”

And finally what is coming next from you studio wise?

“Plenty of music coming out in the next few months. Mostly stuff we’ve done separately. Fresh L&B sessions coming up though but there is still a couple of remixes pending release on No.19. Also the final part of the Invisible Cities LP on Southern Fried.”
