Mark Herman – Pooldisco

The man behind one of the three new nights on everyone’s Ibiza lips this summer…

Welcome back to DMCWORLD Mr Herman, a hugely successful first summer under your lifebelt. Now the dust has settled, are you happy with how the season went?

“For our first season, I reckon we did pretty OK! Lots of great feedback to Pooldisco, people seemed to really like it, I’m happy!”

Did you get any feedback from clubbers who usually expect a superstar DJ for their 50 euros rather than stars of the underground?

“The feedback was great, they loved the party atmosphere that centred on an all round entertainment.”

Who would you say were your brightest DJ stars this summer?

“DJ Severino, ONNO, amazing sets from Tom Stephan and The Shack + Raul Rodriguez and Paul Reynolds are def ones to watch out for!”

Who else stood out for you on the Pooldisco team entertainment wise?

“Our hosts – ROY INC, Viktoria Modesta, Tamer Wilde, Johanna Londinium and Tristan Temple – these guys became mini stars of Ibiza. Special guest host Susanne Bartsch is an absolute clubland legend and our live visual artist Irina Levy from Microchunk is superb.”

What was your best party?

“The vibe on July 28th was amazing!”

What are the plans for the brand outside of Ibiza?

“Coming back to London for a mega party around December time – fingers crossed (a pool party with no water!). Maybe going across the Atlantic, just watch this space. And much, much more in the planning stages!”

What changes for Pooldisco Ibiza 2013 are already forming in your head?

“Can I clone Severino? More hosts and to learn by this year’s experience!”

What was the Pooldisco anthem of the summer?

“Pirupa ‘Party Non Stop’.”

Did you get a lot of people jumping in the pool?

“Only if they were trying to cool down from the pure heat of the party!”

What is your favourite memory of Ibiza 2012?

“Seeing the Pooldisco logo on the screens of Ushuaia for the first time, sharing an apartment with the best PR in the world – Mitch Clark (pictured with me above) and her singing Shihtzu and Sunday evenings at Can Rey.”

Away from Ushuaia, what other parties did you attend that impressed you?

“Circo Loco at DC10 and some great late night hang outs at Es Vive too.”

Most overplayed record of the summer in Ibiza?

“Gotye – ‘Somebody That I Used To Know.”

Why is Ibiza still the best party location in the world?

“There is a special energy on the island, you can be whoever you wanna be and do whatever you wanna do and you don’t get judged!”

Ibiza is now split straight down the middle with serious DJs spinning quality house and techno on one side, and DJs playing the big room bangers on the other. Discuss…

“There needs to be something for everyone…”

Favourite restaurant and beach in Ibiza?

“Fish Shack on Talamanca and Es Cavallet…”

Do you think the 123 Rocktronic Festival that featured the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Sting, David Guetta and Tiesto this year is an important addition to the Ibiza summer, or do you think it is a case of one too many party on an already bulging season?

“I didn’t go but there seemed to be some great artists on the line up that offered Ibiza some great variation.”

A lot of money has been spent on the island in recent years improving things, what do you think is the biggest improvement on the island?

“Creation of Ushuaia!”

What nationality are the craziest people on the dancefloor?

“Don’t think they even know!”

And finally, tell us about your first trip to the white isle…

“With my sister in September 23 years ago. Rained a lot, kind of like this September…”
