Cypriot Styles in da house! Dude – where in the world are you right now and what is the weather like?

Hey guys, I’m in sunny Cyprus where we’ve been enjoying summer for a month already!

The best bit of new music you have heard today?

Follow Me by Shermanology. Really love their new Phylosophy & style.

So much love in the air for your new tune ‘IWI’ out on Size and ripping it up worldwide. Angello and Garrix both smashing it out on their radio shows…please talk us through the sound and history of this trip-fantastic tune…

We’ve been friends with Jenia and That Matters and we’d been talking for a while about doing a track together, combining our common interests in music but also very different backgrounds. The common element that prevailed was our love for original house music, a 90’s feeling and a desire to make a proper club-tune. In the rest you can see a bit of each of us literally every other second.

Big weekend for the Guaba Beach Bar in Limassol last weekend with Chuckie touching down for the 5th Birthday – what is your connection to this piece of paradise and why is it so good?

I’ve been the resident, head of music and artist manager of Guaba for 5 years. Guaba doesn’t conform to any standard; on the contrary it always pushes them higher and all it requires is the mood for fun. So you’ll have women in high heels next to backpack travelers enjoying the same party on the beach in the same way and no one batting an eye.

The influences section of your Facebook page – you state that they are… “Greek electronic music producers of various genres mainly”. Please name them and why they mean so much to you…

Wow that’s a nice trip down memory lane! I’d say, of the top of my head, G-Pal, AMX, V-Sag, Chris Nemmo, Nikos Diamandopoulos, Christian Cambas, Christo Z. At the age I was when I started getting the electronic music bug, I wasn’t exactly allowed into big events with international artists but I could always get into a random bar/club in Athens when one of the Greek artists were playing. So naturally I started following them first. And it was through them -from tracklists, international releases, sets, interviews- that an even bigger world was opened up to me!

What is coming out next from you studio wise?

We are working on a few ideas, some with That Matters, some ourselves. Our goal and vision remains the same, to deliver 100% fresh material that has something to offer not the same over and over.

The 5 big tunes in your box this weekend…

  • Rogerseventytwo – You Take Me Higher – Although I hadn’t played it in years, I was playing at Guaba the other night and this friend joined in and played it and I thought “My God this is SO GOOD!!”
  • ID – Dogs on Acid – Well that’s simply a dancefloor destroyer!
  • Robbie Rivera & Tom Staar – Funkatron – I’m a huge fan of Tom’s work and bringing such a classic tune back, is one of the things I love for my sets.
  • Kryder, Dave Winnel – Apache – Just in love with this track.
  • Tom Tyger – House Nation – As far as I’m concerned, it’s a perfect combination of old school house inspiration and today’s production and dancefloor knowledge.

Okay let’s rewind for a moment. At what age did you first start thinking about a career in music and how what were your first steps towards this goal?

Been studying dance & piano since I was 7. Actually music was my on-the-side thing while I was going after a career as a dancer until a fateful night at the age of 12, I saw a friend DJ at a costume party I attended. After that I found out where he rented his equipment and asked to work there and in the same time I started organising my school’s parties so I could play.

Was the idea back then DJing or production?

It’s always been DJing. Production came afterwards as a way to have a better way to express what I want through my sets and of course it’s needed if you want to advance in your career.

When was the last time you danced to a DJ?

Kryder’s set at Guaba, 2 Sundays ago.

Where are some of the big DJ dates in your diary you are looking forward to later this year?

Our show at Far Out, Ios island, Greece in July, the next day playing with Armin back in Cyprus and of course playing with Fedde at Guaba in August!

What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?

Talking to a girl haha! Seriously though it’s becoming a DJ. It never really stops being a risk that’s why it’s the greatest but also yields the greatest reward!

Which famous person would you most like to see play you in a film?

Hugh Jackman as me, Ryan Reynolds as Jenia and Paul Bettany as That Matters.

And finally, gotta ask…why the mystery behind the identity of That Matters?

Wouldn’t be much of a mystery if I told you now, would it?
