AARDVARCK
CULT COPY
RUSH HOUR

Amsterdam’s Rush Hour just impressed severely with the Comtron project and this tribute to Detroit techno by the veteran DJ is another belter. The album grew from three twelves which did enough damage to expand into an album-length continuous soundtrack [which also comes with a 25 minute Michael Butink video on the DVD]. It’s pure Motor City heaven with an Amsterdam perspective. Searing strings, cavernous pads, funked or tribal groves and smacking electro all pop up in a continuous journey with highs and lows plus stretches of hypnotic tech-funk groove power. There’s a definite early 90s feel which, on tracks like ‘Cult Copy 2’ also recalls that period’s gorgeously deep Strictly Rhythm outings. But despite the homaging, the set never loses the Detroit philosophy of making music for the future.
