Initially out early last year, this is being re-released due to the (much deserved) runaway success of “Rocker”, which dominated the airwaves of clubs, television and radio alike. Germany’s Alter Ego shouldn’t need much introduction. They’re the driving force behind labels like Playhouse, Ongaku and Klang Elektronik, and have been producing music since the early 90’s, scoring many a club hit along the way (“Betty Ford” most recently prior to “Rocker”). “Transphormer” is possibly their best realised album yet. Like “Rocker”, it’s rock n roll attitude throughout – sneering, half empty bottle of Jack Daniels to hand – but minus the associated ego or pomposity, just deep down gritty basement style music, stripped to it’s core elements, energy, sex and emotion. All on one CD. Alter Ego decided to avoid any vocals feeling they’d reached a point where the music had surpassed that. They’re right. Minus vocals, it arrives at a much bassier, more immediate response level. Put basically, it fuckin’ rocks. Don’t miss it again.
