Blair French – Through The Blinds – (Delsin Records / Dado Records)

If you like to ease yourself into the day, then the music of Blair French will be right up your street. ‘Through The Blinds’ is released by John Beltran and operates in a similar way, though Blair’s music seems to hover effortlessly in mid-air, right from the first waves of ‘Star Dust’ that wash over the listener. French is a very talented producer, one that can make an awful lot from very little, and these ten weightless tracks are a gorgeous kind of sonic bath. There are some nice variations, with ‘Through The Blinds’ featuring a tasteful electric violin line, and ‘Moonrise Train’ making use of a rickety old piano. ‘Before Mornings Arrival’ and ‘Frames’ form the centrepiece of the record, with textures you can literally dive into. One for a sunrise moment or two, bringing those cold, clear mornings to life.
