Cameo Culture is no newbie to this game – his name is Dave Roberstson and he has worked as part of a duo before now, but her comes very correct with a solo debut LP on Wolf & Lamb. The American label is the perfect outlet for his sounds, lush and organic, deep and sultry as they are. Inspired by a whole world of sounds from soul to indie, pop to do-wop, mown to good old house, disco and funk, he bottles all them up and more on his debut, Burning Bright, which sure does do that across the course of nine great tracks. Tracks is not the right word, frankly, because many of these cuts are actually more like songs, songs you could listen to on a sunny day, a date or a romantic Sunday morning. Each one is arranged properly and unfolds magically, with varying emotions on show throughout. Right and Wrong is a prime example, with its lazy claps, big licks and lush chords. Organic percussion characterises the whole album, as do emotive vocals, tinkling keys and proper instrumentals. It’s a joyous album as a result and one that really will soar this summer.
