Sometimes dance music gets overcomplicated – but not in the hands of DJ 3000, who makes a very satisfying blend of Detroit-based techno with a bit of deep house for good measure. DJ 3000 – aka Franki Juncaj – hails from the Motor City and clearly likes his Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson productions, but has more recently looked to Eastern Europe and the Middle East for inspiration. ‘Besa’, which is something of a love letter written on his return to his home city from Europe, keeps a bit of those areas in its opening track ‘’Indigo’, but is best represented by some really warm, more obviously Detroit-based productions such as ‘Patron’ and ‘’. Towards the end of the album Juncaj tends not to develop his ideas too much, which means that they don’t stand up quite as well for home listening as they would for the dancefloor, but there is clearly an assured hand at work here, one aware of his musical past as well as his present.
