You probably never heard of Carla Bruni but in French speaking countries this ex-model is a star – not least for previously dating Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Kevin Costner or tycoon Donald Trump. Heiress to an Italian tyre manufacturing fortune, Bruni quickly became a highly paid model before deciding to launch herself as singer/songwriter. Not that she did badly for an average singer, her first album ‘Quelqu’un M’a Dit’ has sold close to a million copies in France alone. As if to avoid comparison second album ‘No Promises’ has opted for the concept of laying famous poems from the likes of Yeats, Dorothy Parker and Emily Dickinson over her trademark acoustic backing tracks.
