The second album from Fluxion, aka Konstantinos Soublis, to be released on Echochord, ‘Traces’ is a record of considerable depth that incorporates dub influences to very successful effect. The production is impressive, the mostly instrumental tracks facing inwards and projecting a darker range of colours without ever being depressing. ‘Desert Nights’ is stretched out and spaced out, its atmospheric textures slowly shifting over a steady beat, while ‘Eruption’ is laced with darkness but has glimmers of light showing in the middle distance. Throughout Soublis works with a firm command of what he wants to do, but he makes the overall picture ideal for middle of the night listening. Fans of deep house and darker ambience will have much to enjoy here.
