Gang Gang Dance
Saint Dymphna
Warp

It’s fair to assume you won’t have heard anything quite like Brooklyn’s Gang Gang Dance this year. It’s the sheer variety and colour of their sound that makes them such an enticing prospect, and this – their fourth album but their first release on Warp – is a record you won’t be taking off the player in a hurry. Sometimes it sounds a bit like Kate Bush – ‘House Jam’ featuring Tinchy Stryder’s distinctive vocals over stabbing synth lines – but the sighing refrain of ‘Blue Nile’ and the thrilling rush of rhythms on ‘Desert Storm’ is all their own. Refreshingly unpredictable and more than a bit bonkers, this is the sound of a band not afraid to experiment, with startling results.
