Four albums in, and Alison Goldfrapp has calmed down from the dominatrix of ‘Supernature’ to produce this, a sound that returns to take the best bits of their ‘Felt Mountain’ debut. As an after hours record this is ideal, for while its often dreamy textures are to the fore there’s still enough rhythm going on in tracks like ‘Caravan Girl’ to keep the interest high. Recent single ‘A&E’ is a good pointer for the album’s sound, occasionally given more folky impetus in tracks such as ‘Little Bird’. while the choruses are strong, as in ‘Happiness’, which will stick in your head for ages. With beautiful production that includes strings and choirs at times, this is an album to wallow in, over and over.
