Jah Wobble
Japanese Dub
30 Hertz

Having somehow worked Chinese music in to a dub style a couple of years back, Jah Wobble returns to the East to try out some of the same techniques on the music of Japan. Once again it somehow works, with big, lumbering basslines giving the original Japanese material enough room in which to work. The appropriation of Japanese chamber music in ‘Ma’ is especially striking, while elsewhere he makes sensitive use of instruments such as the koto, the shamisen and some fantastic drumming from Joji Hirota. Well worth seeking out if you want to hear something a little different, this is Japanese music as you’ve never heard it before.
