James Pants
Seven Seals
Stones Throw

Mr Pants’ second long player for Stones Throw is faster and more eventful than his first, based as it is on the author’s experiences of reading the last book in the Bible, ‘Revelation’. It has provided him with a creative spur that sees him still concentrating on a blend of disco rhythms and some hip hop sensibilities. Yet while nothing quite prepares for the sudden onslaught of distortion in Beyond Time, ‘I Live Inside An Egg’ is definitely as weird as it sounds, all pocket pop sounds, and ‘I Promise I Lied’ delivers with its chunky 80s synths. Pants has a wide range of sonic tools at his disposal, and in this context at least works better when things are more spaced out, as they turn out to be in ‘Sky Warning’. Interesting, and worth hearing, but could perhaps do with more focus.
