Matt Tolfrey not only runs the label but has also produced his debut album for it, which can really only mean that this is a very significant release for Leftroom. But, if there was any lingering doubt as to how his sound would transfer across the full length of an album, let me stop you right there, and say that Word Of Mouth speaks volumes in terms of originality and forward-thinking attitude. The production sparkles throughout and the music enviably evokes a diverse selection of moods, both vocally and instrumentally, with the additional bonus of the cameo appearances from the likes of Marshall Jefferson and James Teej. From the bassline nirvana of the neatly titled ‘Darkside of The Disco Ball’ straight through to the joyous funk of ‘Turn You Out’ (feat Ya Kid K) and beyond, the album always rings true while tantalising your expectations.
