I’ve been playing this to death for the last few weeks and it’s unforgivable that it hasn’t yet been thrust forth in this mighty organ. Mudd is Paul Murphy of St Albans, who was part of Akwaaba [who made two acclaimed albums for Dysfunction]. From the acoustic ambience of ‘C40’, the album commences to glide effortlessly through lubricated funk, space-boogie, nu-disco and other strains, all linked by insidious grooves, sublime live playing and the kind of lush sheen which makes small animals float to the ceiling masturbating serenely. As it ends with ‘Summer In The Wood’ the realisation has long set in that this album is something a bit special.
