Sometimes when listening to a deep house album you would be forgiven for thinking absolutely nothing has happened in the last ten years. That is definitely not a criticism of Miguel Migs, mind, for he has always been about making classy vocal productions that are deep yet subtly energetic – and here he is doing a similar thing again. The difference here though is that that songwriting feels a bit more substantial and emotional, Migs choosing his vocal talents carefully. So as well as the untouchable Lucy Shaw we have Meshell Ndegeocello, Omar and Andy Allo among others, bringing more soul to the table in productions like ‘Give Me Somethin’’, ‘What Do You Want’ and ‘Let It Play’, where Martin Luther is excellent. With some meaningful songs at his disposal, then, Migs warms up the evenings with a bit of California sunshine.
