Simon Dine & Daisy Martey are the creative force and distinctive voice that is the core of Noonday Underground, making melancholic pop with a swinging 60‚s feel on floor friendly grooves. ‘On The Freedom Flotilla’ is Noonday Underground’s third album, and for the first time Miss Daisy handles all the vocals, bringing Beth Orton, Dusty Springfield and Doris Day to mind, as she glides over the extremely funky ‘You Keep Holding O’, with its Paisley Park made of Plasticine vibe. ‘She Knows’ observes the surreal drugged up perfect housewife, while title cut ‘The Freedom Tortilla’ gets a low slung hip shaking side step on the go, offset with a joyous but slightly worse for wear psychedelic parade. Noonday Underground should be up there alongside The Go! Team.
