Octave One – ‘Revisited: Here, There And Beyond’ – (430 West)

A celebration of 20 years for the 430 West label, this collection of Octave One re-rubs brings together a formidable list of techno and electro talent. It’s a versatile collection, moving from deep and thoughtful musings to powerful, up front club tracks, with the odd one dropping in between. The duo offer some remixes themselves, and ‘Meridian’ comes out with a tough kick drum, but elsewhere it’s left to the likes of Luke Slater, Ken Ishii, Alter Ego and Cari Lekebusch to deliver a very impressive set of tributes. The strength in depth here means there is nothing like an undercard either, for Regis and Function come up with some lovely dark, rolling drums to complement ‘I Believe’, Aril Brikha does a spacey take on ‘Daystar Rising’ and Vince Watson’s clubby interpretation of ‘Nicolette’ adds a punch to the rhythm. Best of all – arguably – is the nippy Alter Ego version of ‘Blackwater’, zipping along on a thrill seeking ride with its catchy vocal snippets.
