Music Man

This sinks its glistening hooks into the old scrotum right away as the Croatian producer unzips a thrillingly multi-layered barrage of electronic skylines blessed with their own contagious power. Peter has pedigree having already released on Cocoon and a 2001 ambient album on Jeff Mill’ Tomorrow label. He knows his stuff. Led by the bulgatron turbo-shorts embroidered with Eastern motifs of the ‘Running Man’ single, the album blasts away trance or techno confines by virtue of shimmering electronic magnificence. ‘Sparkling Stars’ demonstrates the man’s skill at projecting this 3D depth in his music, which is often built on banks of sequencers, not unklike Terry Riley-meets-krautrock in the opening ‘Kanon’ while ‘Desert Island’ takes it darker. The sweeping melodies of ‘Rain’ even recalls Japanese composer Kitaro while the percolating ‘Waterfall’, although injecting Detroit string flavours, is nothing else but his own, highly-developed sonic smorgasbord, brought to a perfect close by the symphonic ambience of ‘Anja’s Theme’. Totally recommended.
